Community Medical Professionals Receives Blue Cross Blue Shield Excellence in Primary Care Award
Performance in top 10% of Primary Care Physicians (PHP) in Program
June 30, 2010 — Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) today announced that Dr. Alberto Sobrado, Director of Primary Care & Internal Medicine at Community Medical Professionals of North Andover, has been recognized with a Blue Cross Blue Shield Excellence Award. The Blue Cross Blue Shield Primary Care Physician Quality Program was started in 2000 to enhance the quality of care BCBSMA network providers deliver.
Adult practitioners in the program were measured on generic prescription utilization, appropriate control of elevated cholesterol levels, diabetes care, electronic technologies adoption (the implementation of an e-prescribing system, electronic medical records, or quality outcomes of reporting tied to cholesterol/diabetes management and hypertension) and completion of cultural competency training.
The Primary Care Physician Program was designed with quality of care and managing costs in mind. The program aims to increase the number of members who receive important preventive and disease management services from the providers participating in the BCBSMA network. The Program is a quality-based inititiative that rewards physicians for delivering safe, effective, efficient health care services.
Dr. Sobrado founded CoMedPro in 1987 to serve the adult primary care needs of local communities. His patients come from all over the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire, including North Andover, Andover, Haverhill, Lawrence, Methuen, and Salem, NH. He is an American College of Physicians (ACP) member and Board Certified Internist who was an early adopter of "e-prescribing" technology and helped Massachusetts earn the number one ranking at the second annual Safe-Rx Awards. Doctor Sobrado was awarded the Safe-Rx Award for demonstrating outstanding leadership in his use of e-prescribing technology.
"I am honored to be chosen for this prestigious award," Sobrado said. "I believe that we as physicians can work together with hospitals, health plans, purchasers, consumers, and government agencies to promote improvement in the quality and reduction in the cost of health care services in Massachusetts."
